William Henzell's Blog Sep 26

I arrived in Liverpool, England today after 26 hours of flying from home in Melbourne. Doing this blog is a good way of keeping my eyes open in an attempt to minimise the effects of jetlag. It usually takes me 4 or 5 days to get over jetlag but on this occasion I've got a day and a half. The flights ran smoothly and I even managed to get 5 or 6 hours of sleep on the way over.

I was met by a characteristic English setting; grey skies and downpours. Fortunately the competition venue is less than a 100 metres from the hotel so I should be able to stay dry. I met up with my Canadian buddy Pierre-Luc Hinse, who is representing North America here in Liverpool. We had a short 45 minute training session in the competition hall which helped me stay awake this long and will hopefully allow my body to start recovering and loosening up after the long flight. The comp hall looks good - there aren't a huge number of spectator seats; maybe 1500 - 2000 in total so the hall has an intimate feel to it.

Pierre-Luc and I were talking about coaches and figures we'd be the only two players at the event without coaches. He mentioned that some of the National coaches from the bigger nations (who'll be competing in the main stage of the World Cup) are available for hire for around 100 Euros per match, so 300 Euros for the three group matches. When I thought about it I couldn't work out if that was cheap or expensive. I guess it depends who is paying that 300 Euros at the end of the day, ie you yourself or the national association. Also, how much benefit is there is having someone of your bench you've never worked with before and who has only seen you play a handful of times.
